Serge J  Richard
Serge J. Richard, 65, of Gardner, formerly of Templeton, passed away in his sleep Tuesday, March 27, 2018 in his residence, following a long illness.
Born in St. Louis de Kent, N.B. Canada on February 2, 1953, he was the son of the late Alfred and Imelda (Thebeau) Richard.
Serge graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1972. He was a member of Holy Cross Church of E. Templeton.
Serge was a Machinist and 6 Sigma Black Belt employed by General Electric Company of Lynn, MA for 30 years, retiring in 2004.
He was a classic car enthusiast, and loved everything about his cars. Serge’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
He was a former Director of the Acadien Social Club of Gardner, 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, member of the Mid-State Antique Auto Club, mentor at Seven Hills Foundation and was a Paraprofessional at Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School of Fitchburg.
Serge was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend of 41 years, Barbara J. (Griffin) Richard, who died August 23, 2017.
He leaves one daughter, Michelle L. Smart and her husband Scott of Gardner; one son, Michael J. Richard of Athol; three brothers, France Richard and his wife Marge of Athol, Gilles Richard and his wife Anna of Westminster, Danny Richard and his wife Roberta of Otter River, two sisters, Yvette Richard of Canada, and Yvonne Richard and her husband Lorenzo of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren, Coby Smart, Connor Smart, Julia Smart, Jake Smart and Eric Richard; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Serge was predeceased by two brothers, Regis and Joseph Richard; and by one sister, Marie Richard.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 6th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
