Dorothy M. “Dot” Suojanen, 85, of Hubbardston, died peacefully Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center of Worcester.
Born in Gardner on April 24, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Lyman and Ruby (Crockett) Woodward.
Dorothy graduated from Gardner High School of Gardner with Class of 1950.
She was employed by the Town of Hubbardston in the Assessor’s Office from 1984 thru 1994. She was previously employed in the billing department of LZ Kamman Company of Gardner.
Dorothy was a member of the First Parish Unitarian Church of Hubbardston.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading and crossword puzzles. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, and her favorite television games were ‘Jeopardy’, ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and ‘Family Feud’. Dorothy loved spending time with her family, and especially enjoyed caring for her two great-grandsons.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, William E. Suojanen, who died April 25, 2008.
Dorothy leaves her son, William Suojanen of Onchiota, NY; daughter, Linda A. Ruckey and her husband Thomas of Westminster; four grandchildren, Heather Powell and her husband Glen, Erin Ruckey, Eric Suojanen and Jessica Palaszynski and her husband Jim; two great-grandchildren, Collin and Ethan Powell; five nieces, two nephews and several cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Lyman Woodward, Jr. who died during WWII.
Graveside Services will be held in the Spring in Evergreen Cemetery of Hubbardston.
